Amrita Sher-Gil (30 January 1913 - 5 December 1941) was an Hungarian-Indian woman painter. She born in 1913 in Budapest, Hungary. She has been called "one of the greatest avant-garde artists of the early 20th century" and a "pioneer" in modern Indian art. Sher-Gil started getting art lessons since the age of eight. Her first sucess was "Young Girls" in 1932. Besides the painter, she was also an avid reader and a pianist.
